Area Winter Team Dressage

Sunday 14th November Area Dressage Round Up

Our team came 12th on Sunday out of 25 teams entered, a good result considering the day!  The journey was made very difficult by the closure of the A1 northbound so everyone had to make a serious detour in order to reach REC.  So many thanks to Rachel, Sara, Kate and Louise for making the journey and also to Rachel and Sara who had more than enough time to wait between classes!

Individually, congratulations to Rachel Mackie who came 2nd in her warm up test and =4th in the qualifier after arriving at about the time she was due in! great result.  Sara Williams came 5th in her warm up test and =11th in the qualifier after having had her riding boots stitched up between tests!  Kate Birkett didn't do a warm up but still managed =11th in her section and unfortunately Louise had a bit of a "naughty pony" day and is putting it down to experience!

Several of the judges have commented on the exceptionally high standard this year and think that some of the competitors should be doing affiliated.

Show Jumping Team Event Report -  Richmond 18th July

Firstly a very big thank you to Judith Charlesworth, Hazel Padgett, Di O’Toole and Connie for giving up there valuable time to help at the event.  All the team members very much appreciated the help, also to Sarah Williams who came and supported and helped on the day after her ride went unsound.

Novice Team

Gerald Dawson – Narrow Escape

Louise Hannington – Mr Darcy the Optamist

Pam Smith - Ben

Rachel Mackie – King of Swing

The novice teamed was place 6th overall

Intermediate Team-

Rebecca Dent – Jarva Lily

Sarah Gill – Rupert

Sara Bryant – College Diamond

The intermediate team were down to 3 members but came 6th with Sara Bryant also being placed 3rd as an individual.

The days leading up to the event were a bit fraught to say the least!! Louise’s ride went lame and she took on Gerald Dawson,s ride and made it look very easy even though she had only ridden Darcy a few times.

Rachel’s ride was a young 4 year old who took it all in his stride, and many thanks to Pam who stepped in at the very last minute.

Sarah Gill had to drag Rupert out of semi retirement at the very last minute to compete.

All the final results of the day will be posted on the web site when they become available

at

Red House Estate

Moor Monkton, York YO26 8JQ

By kind permission of Major and Mrs A Gordon

As with all equestrian activities, we accept there is an element of risk when competing no matter what the level.  An incident with a horse and rider occurred at the Combined Event.  Sophia Mills would like to thank all those who helped on the day, with special thanks to “the first is Sara Bryant for looking after Harry while I got taken to hospital and also to a girl called Mel who did the dressage in the morning for driving me to the hospital and another girl who also just did the dressage in the morning called Annette (I think) and also if you can, would you put a thank you in the news letter as many more people helped me.” Thank you, Sophia Mills.

Nidd Valley Riding Club would like to extend our thanks to everyone who assisted Sophia on the day.  We wish Sophia a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing her again at future events.

Area Horse trials Bishop Burton 21st June 2009…

It all began at 4am!!! With the very early dressage times which the club had been allocated!!!

The going was really good as the rain the day before had taken some of the hardness out of the ground.

The Show Jumping appeared to be catching a lot of people out but we were all fine as the arena can be a bit spooky.

The XC was great going and all of us loved that part with us all going round clear

The team...
                Sara Bryant – College Diamond
                Christina Roskilly – Storm XIV
Natasha Stentiford – Point Break II
                Tamsin Stentiford – Beachwood

Individuals...
                Clare Parker – Velvet Star
                Helen Vos – Sharkey

The day proved very successful for us all with the team being placed 2nd out of 17 other riding clubs. We believe the team has qualified for the Championships at Off Church but we are just waiting for conformation.

Calderdale won with an overall score of 117.4 with us hot on their heels with 123.2, the 3rd placed team finished on a score of 123.8 so very little in it!

Each of the team members were also placed individually within there own sections with Christina being placed 3rd, with a final score 42.1 Sara finished on 41.8  in 4th place and Natasha 4th  finished on 39.3 in  Tamsin came 10th finishing on 55.31

Helen Vos was placed 6th with an over score of 44.4 and Clare Parker finished 10th on 56.6

Many thanks for the helpers which we always need to provide at these types of events so a big thank you for Peta Ackerley and her helper Samantha Swenson who fence judged, Toni who also fenced judged as well as keeping Clare calm!!! And Gill Sanders.

After the very early start we all had our allocated jobs in the afternoon but it was a glories sunny day and the 2nd place made it all the better.
